United Physical Therapy is the first choice of patients and physicians for physical therapy in the Anchorage area due to specialized expert clinicians. We advance the practice of physical therapy through a comprehensive examination of treatment methodologies in order to provide patients with the most efficient and cutting edge techniques available in a caring manner to eliminate their core problem.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a skilled intervention performed by a licensed physical therapist that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and release underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular, and connective tissues for the management of pain and movement impairments. Dry needling is a technique used to treat dysfunctions in skeletal muscle, fascia, and connective tissue, and diminish persistent peripheral nociceptive input, and reduce or restore impairments of body structure and function leading to improved activity and participation.

United Physical Therapy is proud to offer dry needling for our patients and clients. Please contact us for more information or discuss this with your current healthcare provider if you feel you would benefit from this technique.

Rehabilitative/Kinesio Taping

Rehabilitative taping, including Kinesio Taping®, promotes natural healing without restricting range of motion.

Astym Treatment

Astym® treatment is a regenerative therapy provided by specially trained and certified physical and occupational therapists. Instruments are applied on top of the skin to locate dysfunctional (unhealthy) soft tissue and transfer pressure and shear forces to the underlying soft tissue structures.

Blood Flow Restriction Therapy

If Personalized Blood Flow Restriction (PBFR) training is for you, your therapist can supplement this to your plan of care. This is used primarily for a rapid increase of strength and hypertrophy (increased size of muscle tissue).  Primarily, used when our patients have muscle atrophy due to an inactive period following an injury.  We utilize the PBFR, the approved Personalized Tourniquet System device. Personalized blood flow restriction rehabilitation training (PBFR) is a game-changing injury recovery therapy that is producing dramatically positive results.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups made of glass, plastic or rubber on your skin for a few minutes to create suction under the cups. There are many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

United Physical Therapy uses the most State of the Art technology in helping you recover from your injury or surgery.  Our Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill allows us to have you bear weight, walk, or run at less than full body weight, making it less painful and easier to return you to your previous level of function.  For more info, click here.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on treatment that helps to alleviate chronic pain and tension by improving the functionality of the CranioSacral system.

Strain Counterstrain (SCS) is a gentle soft tissue manipulation technique which is effective in treating pain and limitations in strength and range of motion. SCS aims to reset the muscle's resting length and restore normal muscle tone by providing relief from sustained muscle contraction or spasm. This technique allows a therapist to painlessly "release" muscle and connective tissue spasm from all areas and systems of the human body.

Custom Foot Orthoses

Active Release Therapy

Active Release Therapy or ART is a non-invasive treatment system engineered to locate and quickly resolve soft-tissue disorders. This patented treatment system involves a hands-on evaluation of pain areas to pinpoint the root of the problem followed by the utilization of ART protocols to repair and restore the damaged tissue. Postural Restoration

Postural restoration is a holistic, posture based approach to management of patients by taking multiple body systems into account to guide and direct patient care. Examinations are performed to asses postural alignment reflected in three planes simultaneously to determine the position of the body and whether or not pathology exists as a result of compensation.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation is a technique to treat back pain, neck pain, and other musculoskeletal conditions via the application of force to spinal joints.

Video Gait Analysis

We offer Video Gait and Running Analysis software to assist you in optimizing your running form. During a Gait Analysis session, our specialists will asses biomechanical patterns via video software to provide precise feedback and suggestions to improve form. From there, you'll receive individualized images along with tips and exercises to maximize form and performance.

Ehles-Danos & Hypermobility

Hypermobility spectrum disorders are conditions where your joints stretch more than normal, increasing risk of injury. Physical therapy helps to combat instability and strengthen muscles are joints to improve hypermobility symptoms, alleviate paid, and prevent injury.
